Last week, Japan had several key releases which included the PS4 remaster Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, as well as Hey! Pikmin, Ever Oasis, Hakoniwa Company Works, and other titles. Japanese sales tracker Media Create shares the latest on software and hardware sales data from the week of July 10 through July 16, 2017.

At #1 we have Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age at the top with 100,764 units in its debut. Six-digit sales is amazing for any debut these days, but it comes nowhere near the original Final Fantasy XII’s debut that sold 1,764,266 units in its Japanese debut on PS2 back in 2006, which still remains the best debut figures in Japan of any Final Fantasy game.

However, The Zodiac Age managed to out-sell the 2007 international version, Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System, which debuted with 45,869 copies and saw a life-to-date sales of 107,461 units, which The Zodiac Age almost beat short of a week.

At #2 we have Hey! Pikmin with 65,867 units sold. These aren’t bad numbers considering that it’s a spinoff title. The previous main entry in Pikmin 3 debuted with 92,720 units sold on Wii U back in July 2013.

Gundam Versus took a bit of a fall on its second week going from 121,444 the week prior to 15,734 to chart at #3. Grezzo’s Ever Oasis made its debut selling 14,325 units on 3DS, nothing to write home about but solid for a new IP on 3DS. 100% Pascal-Sensei: Kanpeki Point Bombers on 3DS was another new title of the week on 3DS, and it managed to chart at #6 with 9,113 units sold.

And finally, we have Hakoniwa Company Works, the strategy RPG with a Minecraft look on PS4 at #11 with 4,586 units sold. Considering the success that was Dragon Quest Builders as well as other Minecraft-style games that saw some success in Japan, Nippon Ichi probably expected better sales from this one.

Also, a shout-out to Super Bomberman R which charted at #9 in the week when it wasn’t even in the top-50 the week prior. It’s likely just a case of a fresh new shipment in Japan, but it’s always good to see our bomber buddies back in the weekly chart.

On the hardware side of things, we saw healthy numbers across the board with a good week for PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Looking at it now, having three of the top-6 titles on 3DS is a good sign that the handheld isn’t “dead” in Japan as some may think. With the addition of the 2DS LL and the release of Dragon Quest XI later this month, we can expect to continue seeing strong numbers for weeks to come.
