On July 24th, Nintendo released Yoshi’s New Island for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The game sold just 58,285 copies in its first week. By comparison, 2007’s Yoshi’s Island DS sold 303,114 copies at launch. That’s quite the difference.

So, did the new game flop? I’m not sure. Yoshi’s New Island is actually part of Nintendo’s “Monthly Recommended Software Campaign” for the 3DS. Anyone that buys a brand new 3DS between July 24th and August 31st can download the game for free. Naturally, that affected sales to some extent, but without a shipment number, it’s hard to say just how much.

Meanwhile, 5pb published Corpse Party: Blood Drive for the PS Vita. The game sold 13,688 copies, which is in line with the launch sales of previous games in the series. Below is a look at how those games—all of which were on PSP—performed:

(2010) Corpse Party – 13,566

(2011) Corpse Party: Book of Shadows – 15,249

(2012) Sachiko’s Game of Love – Hysteric Birthday 2U – 7,301

(That last one is something of a spin-off, hence the lower sales.)

Also released last week was Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late for PlayStation 3. Arc System Works published the game, and it sold 9,171 copes in its first week.
