As you play through Suikoden 1 and 2, you’ll come across items with ‘???’ in front of their name, which can typically be appraised into antiques used to decorate your Headquarters’ baths. If you don’t care for decorating, or an antique isn’t to your taste, you can also sell them to a merchant for potch.
Aside from sprucing up your bathhouse, specific combinations of antiques can cause ‘Bath Scenes’ to occur. Despite what you may be thinking, these are fun little animations, such as blooming flowers.
How to appraise ??? items in Suikoden and Suikoden 2
Antiques primarily come from appraising items with “???” in front of them, such as “??? Urn,” that come from defeating enemies and opening chests. Once appraised at an Appraisal Shop, the item will become a specific antique or painting that can be placed in your baths.
In Suikoden 1, players can find an Appraisal Shop in Gregminster, Kouan, Rikon, and Village of the Dwarves. You can also appraise at HQ after recruiting Jabba.
In Suikoden 2, you can appraise items in Greenhill, Highway Village, Muse, Radat, Rockaxed, Sajah, Tigermouth, and Toto. Lebrante will also appraise for free at HQ when recruited. ??? items can also be Old Books in this game.
How to Unlock Baths in Suikoden I
Once you establish Headquarters in Suikoden‘s main story, head out of Kaku (the town nearest HQ) and onto the world map. From the world map, walk southeast into Great Forest.
In Great Forest (which is actually a little town), enter the building behind the Blacksmith and recruit Sasuke. He’ll open up the Baths back at your castle. While you’re here, don’t forget to visit the Blacksmith itself to recruit Maas.
How to Place Antiques in Suikoden I
To place an antique, visit HQ and head down to the second floor. Walk into the baths, select “Take a bath,” and then “Place item.” Choose your antique and then select where in the baths you’d like to place it.
Keep in mind that you need to appraise an antique before it can be placed in the baths. To remove an Antique, simply select “Remove antique” when taking a bath.
How to Unlock Baths in Suikoden II
Once you have access to Two River, travel there and to the Kobold District to purchase Fried Tacos. Head to Lakewest to the west (use the Suiko Map for directions) and enter the middle house to the north. Have the player character eat a Fried Taco, then speak to the man inside, Tetsu.
Tetsu will ask if you like baths, so select “Of course!!” and when he asks if you want him to make one for you, select “Yes, please!” to recruit Tetsu. He’ll open the baths for you back at HQ.
How to Place Antiques in Suikoden II
To find your baths in Suikoden 2, go to HQ and enter it through the northmost entrance (not the one beside the tavern). Head north one screen, and you’ll see Tetsu and the sign for the baths straight ahead.
To place an appraised antique in the baths, simply head inside, press the confirmation button, and select “Place an item.” If you fancy changing up the entire room, select “Remodel Bath” to change the style.
