One of the early Companion Affinity Missions in XCX will require you to find White Cometite, which can also be used in crafting or researching certain equipment. However, it isn’t super obvious how to source this valuable mineral, so here’s where to find White Cometite in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
How to Get White Cometite in Xenoblade Chronicles X
White Cometite belongs to the category of items called Precious Resources which are earned by mining from certain nodes with the FrontierNav system. You’ll be introduced to this system by an early story quest as well as a sidequest called “The Probe-fessional”, but essentially all you need to do is find a probe site with the required material, plant the probe, and wait to receive it in periodic shipments.
But first, you’ll need to locate the right FN Node. In Primordia, the first area of the game, there are 3 nodes that contain White Cometite but only two are accessible without flying. These are FN Site 118 over to the east side, and FN Site 115 over on the northern side of the continent. Both can be reached on foot without too many aggressive monsters around, with 118 being located in in a cave north from a large lake while for 115 you’ll need to jump down onto a sandy beach.
If you’re trying to complete Lin’s Affinity Quest, The Repair Job, you’ll need 5 pieces of White Cometite in Xenoblade Chronicles X. These resources take a while to trickle in, so even if you aren’t looking to do that just yet it’s worthwhile to grab these nodes anyway so you’ll have some by the time you do need it. You can also boost the amount you gain each shipment by installing probes with higher mining capabilities, or slotting identical mining probes or booster probes nearby to grant a multiplier. Once that’s done all you need to do is wait, so maybe try levelling up some classes in the meantime.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is now available for Nintendo Switch. The original game is available on Wii U.
