Where to Find Healing Items in Grimoire Groves

Grimoire Groves might look like a cozy, relaxing hike through the forest, but it’s actually quite a challenging rogue-lite dungeon-crawler! Don’t let its cute exterior fool you; this game has a lot of tough love to dish out. Your runs will be marked by swarms of enemies, sudden ambushes, and a constant management of your spell cooldowns. In the process, you’re bound to get a few scrapes and bruises. Losing health in Grimoire Groves can cut your runs short, and force you to head back to the garden- or risk losing a good chunk of your loot when it drops to zero. There’s plenty of ways to recover from a botched encounter, though. Keep reading to learn where to find healing items in Grimoire Groves.

Where to Find Healing Items in Grimoire Groves

There’s plenty of healing to go around in Grimoire Groves…just not for the player. Your health recovery options are almost non-existent, and expensive when you can find them. Healing in Grimoire Groves is about being prepared, and recovering quickly from enemy attacks. Otherwise, it pays to have more health than you know what to do with.

Pick up Health Orbs

It’s possible to mitigate the damage you take from an enemy attack in Grimoire Groves. When hit, you’ll notice a few swirly, cloud-like objects appear on the ground. These aren’t just a visual effect to indicate you’ve been hurt. They’re items you can pick up off the ground to gain back the health you just lost! Whenever you suffer from an enemy attack, quickly pick these health orbs up to get back your health. If you manage to collect all three, you might fully recover from the attack altogether! Just be aware that enemies can interact with these orbs as well. If an enemy makes contact with a health orb, the orb will dissipate and prevent you from recovering. Picking these up can save your entire run in the early-game. Later on, the healing you get out of them will offset the need for Grimoire Groves’ other healing option.

Turn Compost into Water Bottles

You can’t bring materials with you into new runs. Anything you collect and don’t use in the garden will be converted into Compost before you jump into the forest again. Compost is vital for long-distance runs through multiple biomes. Almost every floor of the dungeon has an NPC you can interact with. These NPCs typically need your help with making a meal or preparing a drink. The more the NPC likes you, the more items you can make, but it’s the default starter item we’re most interested in. The Water Bottle is always available no matter which NPC you’re talking to, and making it costs 35 Compost. This item will heal Primrose a solid chunk: about two or three hits worth of damage!

When these cooking NPCs aren’t available, Water Bottles can be purchased from vending machines. You can usually find vending machines right before the boss of a biome. However, the Compost cost of using a vending machine varies, with some requiring 50 or even 200 Compost. It’s best to make Water Bottles with the forest residents instead. Keep in mind that making Water Bottles with NPCs will prevent you from making a buff-providing item instead. Sometimes, the best defense is a good offense. Weigh your options carefully!

Get More Health With Charms

Sometimes, the best way to stay alive is to make your health meter so big that taking damage means nothing to you. The Gem Nut charm increases your max energy for the biome matching the shrine you have it equipped on. It’s also one of the easiest (read: cheapest) charms you can make and upgrade. The Gem Nut costs 10 Bealeaves, and one Chonky Bealeave to make. Both of these materials are dropped by Double Beanies. Double Beanies are some of the earliest and most common enemies you can find. With a little luck, you’ll have a huge collection of these materials before you’ve even unlocked the ability to equip charms.

Upgrading an equipped Gem Nut is as easy as crafting another Gem Nut, interacting with the pedestal the pre-existing Gem Nut is seated on, and hitting the upgrade button! Granted, this charm only affects your health when you’re in the matching biome, but it greatly improves your odds of keeping Primrose awake the entire run. It also frees up Compost for other items, and makes scrambling for health orbs less of a priority.

Combining these methods together should help keep your runs alive. Equipping charms sounds simple enough… Until you find out what you have to do before you can equip them. Grimoire Groves loves giving players room to explore and discover the ways forward for themselves. This makes for a fantastic experience, but unlocking new bosses can be a bit confusing.
